Senior Fullstack Mobile Developer (Wellness App MVP) - Part-time - LATAM/NA/EMEA

About the Company

Vella Health & Wellness is a new digital health startup on a mission to transform how people manage chronic back and joint pain. Founded by Dr. Gong Chen, our goal is to deliver faster, cheaper, and smarter relief by tackling the root causes - neuromuscular imbalances - through personalized, AI-guided movement protocols.

We are building a mobile-first platform that combines intelligent diagnostics, real-time feedback, and user-centered design to help users reduce pain and regain function - starting with a lean MVP.

Project Overview

We’re looking for a highly capable and proactive Mobile App Developer or Full-Stack Engineer to lead the MVP build of our mobile wellness app. The app should leverage AI and smartphone camera technology to guide users through movement assessments, recommend exercises, and adapt dynamically based on progress and feedback.

This is a unique opportunity to own the end-to-end development of a health tech product in its earliest stages, working closely with a clinical founder and product advisor.

Responsibilities

• Build and deploy a cross-platform mobile app (iOS & Android)
• Develop a symptom intake quiz via chat-like AI interaction (voice and/or text)
• Build a rule-based diagnostic engine that mimics clinical decision-making logic
• Develop real-time logic flow for recommending and adapting movement protocols
• Track user progress and feedback (e.g., pain level, movement effectiveness)
• Build a lightweight admin interface for human review and AI training
• Set up backend infrastructure to store session data and support basic learning
• Ensure HIPAA-compliant data handling and user privacy
• (Stretch goal) Implement basic computer vision capabilities for form feedback
• Support multilingual UI: English, Spanish, and Chinese

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience building cross-platform mobile apps (preferably React Native)
• Backend development skills (e.g., Node.js, Firebase, AWS, or similar)
• Experience integrating AI APIs, rule-based engines, or chat interfaces
• Familiarity with real-time data handling and performance optimization
• Ability to work independently and deliver functional MVPs quickly
• Strong understanding of data privacy and healthcare compliance (HIPAA or similar)
• Bonus: Experience with computer vision, pose estimation, or camera-based motion tracking

Nice to Have

• Experience with healthcare or wellness apps
• Background in AI/ML, OpenAI APIs, or rule-based reasoning engines
• Knowledge of voice-to-text and text-to-speech integrations
• Fluency in or experience supporting multi-language UIs

Success Criteria

• The MVP can guide users through an intake and movement protocol with at least 50% accuracy compared to a human clinician
• User feedback can adjust recommendations in real time
• All session data is logged for training and future AI enhancement
• App is stable, intuitive, and ready for beta testers within 6 weeks
