Senior Full Stack Engineer (Next.js, Vercel, Headless Shopify) - Part-time - Overlap EST

About the role

Client is building a premium furniture restoration and e-commerce website focused on performance, SEO, and scalability. The frontend uses Next.js and is deployed on Vercel, with a headless Shopify backend. The project is well underway, and we are seeking a senior engineer to conduct a comprehensive technical review, identify remaining gaps, and help bring the site to production.

This is a senior role requiring architectural judgment and ownership of production readiness. You will identify potential issues before launch and implement engineering best practices across the entire stack, with ongoing development work after launch.

Responsibilities

• Conduct a comprehensive audit of the existing codebase, application architecture, and Next.js implementation on Vercel; recommend improvements and identify all remaining launch requirements across performance, security, reliability, SEO, accessibility, and scalability.
• Evaluate the headless Shopify integration, including products, collections, checkout, webhooks, APIs, and synchronization.
• Review database architecture, schema design, and data flow, and ensure the application follows modern engineering best practices.
• Optimize Core Web Vitals and page performance; review caching, image optimization, incremental static regeneration (ISR), server-side rendering (SSR), static site generation (SSG), and edge deployment where appropriate.
• Validate international commerce readiness, including multiple currencies, international shipping, taxes, regional storefront behavior, and localization considerations. Review nationwide U.S. shipping and commerce workflows.
• Review technical SEO, including structured data, redirects, metadata, sitemap generation, robots.txt, canonical URLs, and indexing strategy.
• Review analytics, monitoring, logging, error reporting, security, and deployment practices.
• Work with the existing development team to prioritize and implement recommendations.
• After launch, add features, resolve UX/UI issues, build out inventory, and migrate to AWS when needed, with a continued focus on scalability and sustainability.

Required Experience

• 7+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience, including designing scalable application architecture and launching production e-commerce websites.
• Expert-level Next.js experience with the App Router, strong experience deploying on Vercel, and extensive experience building headless Shopify websites.
• Strong knowledge of React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL; APIs, authentication, webhooks, and integrations; production deployments; and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with caching strategies, performance optimization, image optimization pipelines, and Vercel Edge Functions.
• Strong understanding of technical SEO, experience with large SEO-focused websites, and knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG.
• Experience with QuickBooks integration, Shopify Markets for international e-commerce, and API integrations such as Global-E, Zonos, and duties and tariffs estimators.
• Comfort using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools. Our workflow makes extensive use of these tools, and you must use AI effectively while maintaining high standards for engineering, code quality, testing, and security.
