Juliana Torrisi, RecruiterAbout the Project
Gill Law Group is building a modern family law practice management platform featuring case dashboards, workflow automation, secure data handling, and an AI-powered legal assistant. The system is already partially built with a Flask backend, Azure infrastructure, and early UI mockups. We’re looking for a skilled full-stack developer to take over development, stabilize the codebase, and build new features.
Key components include:
- Case Management Dashboard: Card-based interface showing cases, clients, deadlines, financials, and status updates.
- Workflow System: A JIRA-like case pipeline with visual stages, task tracking, and automated deadlines.
- AI Legal Assistant: Powered by Azure OpenAI, capable of querying case updates, listing upcoming deadlines, drafting legal documents, generating daily summaries, and extracting insights from email, documents, and calendars.
- Integrations: Outlook, Box, Dropbox, calendars, and other legal productivity tools.
- Existing Codebase & Infrastructure:
*Backend: Python + Flask
*Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
*Hosting & CI/CD: Azure App Service, Azure OpenAI, GitHub Actions
*Several APIs and prototypes already in place
The developer will take ownership of stabilizing, extending, and productionizing the application.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and extend the existing Python/Flask backend
- Build and integrate LLM/AI features using Azure OpenAI
- Develop and consume REST APIs for third-party services
- Implement secure authentication (Azure AD B2C, Auth0, similar)
- Build clean, functional frontend components (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
- Design and manage PostgreSQL schemas (users, cases, conversations, workflows)
- Handle deployments via Azure App Service and GitHub Actions
- Communicate technical tradeoffs clearly to a non-technical founder
- Work independently with minimal direction
Required Skills
- Python/Flask (must be proficient; not learning on the job)
- Azure (App Service, Azure OpenAI, deployment pipelines)
- Experience with OpenAI/Azure OpenAI APIs
*Prompt engineering
*Token & conversation management
*Streaming responses
- Strong REST API development
- Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript (React/Vue is a plus)
- Authentication & security best practices
- PostgreSQL or similar relational DB design
- Git/GitHub workflows and CI/CD
- 3+ years building and deploying production software
Ideal Candidate
- Independent problem solver
- Clear communicator able to explain concepts simply
- Must be comfortable working directly with a founder who is domain-expert but non-technical
- Interested in long-term ownership and iterative product building
Why Join This Project
- Build a product directly shaped by real legal-world pain points
- Work on meaningful AI-powered features beyond typical CRUD applications
- Long-term roadmap with strong market fit potential
- Opportunity to own major parts of the platform’s architecture and success
- Python/Flask – The existing backend is Flask; you need to be proficient, not learning on the job
- Azure – Experience with Azure App Service, Azure OpenAI, and Azure deployment pipelines (GitHub Actions). Our infrastructure is on Azure and will stay there.
- LLM/AI Integration – Hands-on experience building applications with OpenAI or Azure OpenAI APIs. You should understand prompt engineering, token management, conversation memory, and streaming responses.
- REST APIs – Comfortable designing, building, and consuming APIs
- Frontend Development – HTML, CSS, JavaScript. Bonus if you're comfortable with a modern framework (React, Vue), but we value clean and functional over fancy.
- Authentication & Security – Experience implementing secure user authentication (Azure AD B2C, Auth0, or similar). This is a legal application—security is not optional.
- Database Design – PostgreSQL or similar relational database. You'll be designing schemas for user accounts, conversation history, and calculator data.
- Git/GitHub – Version control, branching, pull requests, and CI/CD pipelines
- Independent Problem Solver – This is a small team. You need to figure things out, not wait for detailed instructions.
- Clear Communicator – Our founder is not a developer. You must explain technical tradeoffs in plain English and proactively surface issues.
- 3+ years shipping production software – We need someone who's built and deployed real applications used by real people, not side projects or tutorials
