Senior Backend / Data Engineer - Contract

Title: Senior Backend / Data Engineer — Ingestion, Reconciliation & Agent Workflows (Immediate Start)

We’re looking for a senior, hands-on engineer to work directly with our CTO on a short-term, 40+ hour a week contract. We need someone who can get productive in an existing codebase quickly, take ownership of loosely defined problems, and ship reliable work, not just advise on architecture and technicalities.

The core project is a data layer that makes information across a company queryable and useful. Work may include integrating customer systems and third-party APIs; building ingestion, enrichment, reconciliation, and data-synthesis pipelines; and improving data models, storage, and query interfaces on a PlanetScale-backed backend. We’re also building agents and automations that use this data and connected tools, so there is work on workflow execution, authorization, observability, and reliability.

Strong backend and database engineering experience is essential. Experience with TypeScript, PostgreSQL/PlanetScale, API integrations, data pipelines, and production systems is especially relevant. Agent or workflow-automation experience is valuable, but you do not need to be an expert in every area. We care about sound technical judgment, fast execution, clear communication, and careful handling of customer data.

This is a paid contract, initially around 2–8 weeks, with potential to extend. We’d like to start within the next few days., as soon as possible.
