About the Role
We’re looking for a QA Engineer to own quality across our web-based legal research platform.
This is a foundational solo hire — you’ll be building the QA function from the ground up, partnering closely with engineering and product to define what “done” actually means before features reach our stakeholders and users. You’ll have a direct voice in go/no-go decisions at release time, alongside the Product Manager, Engineering Lead, and executive stakeholders.
Responsibilities
**
1. Feature Validation
**- Validate user-facing feature functionality in our web-based dev and production environments against defined requirements and acceptance criteria before stakeholder demos and releases
- Test against defined device profiles, screen sizes, and cross-browser configurations based on user base analytics
- Perform exploratory testing beyond acceptance criteria coverage to surface edge cases and unexpected behavior.
- Ensure completeness and validity of automated tests, keeping them updated and
ensuring adequate coverage.
**2. Test Ownership
**- Author, maintain, and execute structured test cases and test plans for each feature
- Define and maintain a regression test suite; determine what gets regression-tested each
sprint
- Conduct API and integration smoke testing to verify backend contracts surface correctly
in the UI
**3. Defect Management
**- Own the full bug lifecycle in Jira — from filing through verification and closure
- Define bug priority and severity taxonomies and establish the team’s bug bar
- Schedule and lead bug triage with engineering and product
**4. Release Readiness
**- Participate in go/no-go decisions alongside the Product Manager, Engineering Lead, and
senior stakeholders
- Communicate release blockers clearly and early
**5. QA Process & Standards
**- Define device and screen size test profiles informed by user analytics data
- Write and maintain the team’s QA runbook to ensure the process is documented and
scalable
- Establish QA artifact standards for the team (test plans, bug reports, triage templates)
**Qualifications
**- 3+ years in a QA or SDET role on a web-based product
- Experience building or defining a QA function, not just operating within one
- Strong working knowledge of defect lifecycle management and bug triage practices
- Familiarity with cross-browser and responsive/multi-device testing methodologies
- Comfortable working in Jira and sprint-based agile environments
- Clear written communication — you’ll be producing artifacts that engineering, product,
and stakeholders all rely on
- Experience writing automated tests (Playwright, Cypress, or similar)
**Nice to Have
**- Experience in legal tech, compliance-adjacent, or data-heavy B2B SaaS products
- Familiarity with API testing tools (Postman, etc.)
- WCAG / accessibility testing experience
