Product Designer (UX/UI — Web + Mobile) - PT - APAC/EMEA

Engagement type: Contract, part-time (~20 hrs/week), 3-month initial term with extension/full-time potential

About the role

Basil runs several platforms: a B2B inspection and quality dashboard used by retailers and vendors, a mobile app used by inspectors in the field, and a LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) used by staff across our physical testing labs. All of them work, but none have been designed with UX in mind. This role owns UX/UI across all of them, working in sprints that shift between surfaces as priorities change.

What you'll do

• Audit and redesign our existing platforms for usability and visual consistency, with particular focus on complex multi-step forms
• Our users are lab technicians, inspectors, and quality personnel — not consumers, and not people who will tolerate a bad interface patiently. Much of their day is long structured data entry: multi-step inspection forms with conditional fields, 17-section compliance audits, test request forms
• Strong on form design and information density — reducing steps, handling conditional fields, making long structured input tolerable
• Design net-new mobile screens for workflows moving from web to app — including a multi-step inspection flow and incident reporting — and keep patterns consistent with the web dashboard
• Work in rotating sprints (e.g., 3 weeks on dashboard, 3 weeks on app, then back) — needs comfort with context-switching between projects
• Work directly with the founder-side product lead, translating business goals into design direction
• Establish a shared design system and component library so patterns stay consistent across the dashboard, the app, and LIMS
• Run requirements-gathering sessions with lab managers, inspectors, and internal stakeholders, and turn what you hear into a prioritised design roadmap rather than a queue of one-off requests

What you'll need

• 3+ years in UX/UI or product design, with real experience on B2B dashboards, internal tools, or data-heavy platforms
• Ability to design consistent patterns across web and mobile
• Self-directed enough to work from a business goal rather than a detailed spec, and to push back when the goal isn't clear enough yet
• Experience building or maintaining a design system across multiple products
• Comfortable interviewing non-designer stakeholders and users directly to shape your own brief
• Nice to have: TIC, inspection, or supply chain platform experience — not required, but a plus for faster ramp-up
