We are seeking a Senior OpenWRT Developer to join our team and help maintain and enhance our custom OpenWRT fork. This role is critical to ensuring the security and stability of networking devices deployed across critical infrastructure projects for the national electrical sector.
You will be responsible for maintaining and upgrading OpenWRT firmware used in routers/modems that connect to electrical meters. These systems are custom-built and currently under development, making security and stability top priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and extend a custom fork of OpenWRT used in specialized networking equipment.
- Work closely with the founder to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of embedded Linux systems.
- Troubleshoot and fix kernel-level issues and Lua-based scripts.
- Contribute to the stability and vulnerability-free operation of network hardware in development and deployment.
- Collaborate remotely with internal stakeholders and, if possible, work on-site to better understand hardware integrations.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience with OpenWRT firmware and custom builds.
- Proficiency in Linux and Kernel-level development.
- Solid command of Lua programming language.
- Experience with embedded systems, particularly in router/modem environments.
- Familiarity with network protocols and device security best practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Comfortable with sensitive or proprietary hardware/equipment under development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Based in Mexico (for occasional face-to-face collaboration and hardware access).
- Prior experience working on telecom, energy, or IoT infrastructure.
- Comfortable working with confidential and early-stage hardware.
- Spanish-speaking (preferred, not required).
