About Sema
We're building Liz - the world's first Software Development Orchestration Agent. Liz is the connective tissue between Product and Engineering. We have Fortune 1000 customers telling us that Liz is something they've dreamed about for years. Our beta customers are already engaging with Liz everyday.
But Liz isn't our first rodeo. Our current product - Code Scans - has given us a deep understanding of the orchestration issues inherent in today's software development processes and the product and engineering teams behind it all. Code Scans has become the trusted standard for technical due diligence. Our customers include 15 of the world's 20 largest private equity investors, who have trusted us in 1,800+ diligence engagements for enterprise acquisitions worth $1.6 trillion in transaction value. Our $35M in bookings to date and 50% YoY growth demonstrates we know how to deliver value.
With Liz, we're creating a new, native AI partner that enables Product and Engineering to move from chaos to alignment. Liz will lead to the creation of a new category - Software Development Orchestration - and we're going to own that category. What's missing is someone to drive our narrative for both enterprise sales and investors.
What this job is about
You're our first marketing hire. Product marketing, sales enablement, thought leadership, customer proof points—you're doing all of it.
The four things you'll own:
- Customer feedback → testimonials that land. You'll systematize the feedback our users are sharing with us, curating the diamonds applicable to each of our user personas.
- The ROI story. The connective tissue we're building delivers faster roadmaps, delighted devs, and thrilled Boards of Directors. You'll build ROI calculators and business cases that help CPOs, CTOs and PMOs sell Liz to their CFOs.
- Sales enablement from scratch. We've never had someone on our marketing team: we're a 25-person product- and engineering-first company today. We need persona-specific one-pagers (PMO, CTO, CPO,
Developer), competitive battle cards, case studies, deck variations. The corpus that turbocharges our salespeople.
- Public voice. We're not just building out the marketing function, we're creating a category - Software Development Orchestration Agents. That requires thought leadership—substantive POV pieces, regular drumbeat, consistent voice.
The creative opportunity
We're defining how an entire category gets talked about, which means you'll have a lot of creative depth to play with.
The two main problems in the software creation process that Liz solves are the "broken telephone" dynamic of translating customer needs to product and the lack of love between Product and Engineering teams.
What creatives and messaging can you envision around solving the child's game of "Broken Telephone" and making two organizations fall in love with each other?
This is a dream campaign for the right person.
What we're looking for
Non-negotiables
- First (or very early) marketer at a B2B SaaS company. You're not waiting for briefs—you're creating them.
- You can actually write. Clear, sharp prose. We'll ask for samples. • You understand technical buyers. CTOs, engineering managers, PMOs. You can credibly discuss topics like DORA / SPACE, tech debt ratios, flow metrics, refactorings.
- Generalist who executes fast. Draft quickly for iteration: Product marketing v1 Monday, sales deck Tuesday, ROI calculator Wednesday. We need the full corpus built in 2 months.
- Creative vision AND systematic execution. Campaign creativity AND rigorous testimonial aggregation. We need an "AND" talent.
- Category creation experience—you've positioned something genuinely new • Experience marketing to enterprise product or engineering organizations
What this role is not
- Not a "let me understand the product first" role. We have customer validation ready. We need execution NOW. If your instinct is months of onboarding before drafting, Sema isn't the home for you.
- Not a "I'll need a team and agency" role. You're the team (with help from our Design team).
- Not a "lone wolf" role. At Sema we have overdeveloped senses of responsibility and dive into work together. If you work best in isolation, prefer 1:1s to public channels, or see collaboration as "slowing you down," this isn't your role.
Why it's worth it
For the right person, this is a dream campaign.
- You're defining a category. A product that creates the connective tissue so that Product and Engineering can fall in love. Chaos to Alignment. • Incredible raw material. Fortune 1000 customers, quantified ROI, differentiated positioning and customers who love us.
- Multi-year in depth creative platform. "Broken Telephone," "Product ❤ Engineering" are just two ideas, there are innumerable ways this can go.
- You're the first. Not inheriting strategy—building it.
- Flat structure. You'll be tightly connected to the CEO and the Board. The best ideas win and get shipped fast.
