Frontend Developer – Website Migration - Astro (WW-FT)

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Frontend Developer to lead the migration of an existing Squarespace marketing website to a modern, code-based architecture using Astro or Next.js. This project focuses on a lift-and-shift migration, maintaining the current website's content, design, URL structure, and SEO value while enabling a more flexible and efficient development environment.

Responsibilities

• Rebuild the existing website using Astro, Next.js, or a comparable modern frontend framework.
• Migrate existing pages, images, galleries, news content, FAQs, and metadata to the new platform.
• Recreate the existing design and ensure responsive behavior across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
• Set up and maintain the codebase in GitHub, establishing a clean branch, pull request, and code review workflow.
• Configure deployment through Vercel, Netlify, or similar platforms, including setting up preview environments before changes go live.
• Implement or integrate a headless CMS to empower non-technical team members to manage content like news posts and project galleries.
• Preserve existing SEO performance through careful migration, including creating 301 redirects and maintaining URL structures.
• Enhance and preserve metadata, page titles, FAQ content, and other SEO-critical elements.
• Review and implement structured data/schema markup.
• Generate and submit the new sitemap post-launch.
• Optimize the site for performance, accessibility, and Core Web Vitals.
• Support testing, deployment, launch, and post-launch validation to ensure smooth transition and functionality.

Required Skills

• Strong experience with Astro and/or Next.js.
• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Proven experience in migrating or rebuilding websites from CMS or website builders.
• Familiarity with Git/GitHub, branches, pull requests, and code-review workflows.
• Practical technical SEO migration experience, including redirects, maintaining URL structure, metadata management, and sitemap creation.

Nice to Have

• Previous experience with Squarespace migrations.
• Experience with headless CMS platforms such as Sanity, Contentful, Storyblok, Strapi, or similar.
• Experience deploying websites through Vercel or Netlify.
• Knowledge of Schema.org/structured data.
• Familiarity with Claude Code or other AI-assisted development tools.
• Experience with Core Web Vitals and frontend performance optimization.
• Broader SEO/AEO knowledge.
