Founding Engineer for Text-Based Food Delivery App - Part-time - Overlap with EST/NY Time

About the Role

Fair Eats is building a simple, text-based food delivery platform in New York City to provide affordable and fair pricing for restaurants and customers. As the founding engineer, you will play a critical role in bringing this innovative concept to life from the ground up.

Our goal is to create a clean, no-frills mobile app that streamlines the food delivery experience. We're looking for a senior-level developer who can provide technical leadership and guidance to deliver the MVP within a 3-month timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop the cross-platform mobile app using a hybrid framework like React Native
• Architect the backend systems for restaurant onboarding, driver management, order fulfillment, etc.
• Collaborate closely with the founder to translate the business requirements into a functional application
• Deliver the MVP within a 3-month timeframe, working approximately 20 hours per week
• Provide ongoing maintenance and enhancements to the app as needed

Required Skills

• 5+ years of experience building mobile apps, with a strong background in cross-platform development
• Proficient in React Native or a similar hybrid framework (e.g. Flutter, Xamarin)
• Solid understanding of mobile app architecture, UI/UX design, and backend integration
• Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with the non-technical founder
• Ability to work independently and deliver projects within defined timelines

Bonus (Nice to Have)

• Experience in the food/restaurant or delivery service industry
• Familiarity with text-based or minimalist user interface design
• Knowledge of backend technologies like Node.js, MongoDB, etc.
• Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD practices
