Join Onyx Graphics, a leader in wide-format print production software, as an Enterprise Architect / Full-Stack Engineer. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of Onyx products, leveraging new architecture and modern development practices. This is a greenfield project where you'll balance system architecture with hands-on coding, ensuring a seamless integration of multiple workstreams into a unified system.
Responsibilities
- Own the Technical Architecture: Lead the end-to-end technical architecture of the product, making crucial decisions on system functionality, scalability, and evolution.
- Design Parallel Workstreams: Ensure frontend, server-side, hardware, and platform components can be developed simultaneously without conflicts.
- Evaluate Technology Choices: Assist in selecting foundational technologies like backend frameworks and deployment strategies.
- Revamp Licensing Systems: Design a server-side licensing model to replace legacy systems, incorporating feature gating and subscription tiers.
- Support Agile Deployments: Ensure the architecture accommodates weekly deployments and rapid hotfixes.
- Technical Leadership: Mentor an engineering team on modern development practices and Claude Code adoption, while resolving technical conflicts.
- Documentation: Create and maintain clear documentation to facilitate effective collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Required Skills
- Systems Thinking: Proven experience in designing architectures where multiple services and integrations work cohesively.
- Claude Code Proficiency: Demonstrated experience in building systems using Claude Code or similar AI-assisted tools.
- Full-Stack Development: Strong skills in TypeScript, React, Node.js, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
- Architecture Decision-Making: A track record of making sound technology choices under real-world conditions.
- Testing Discipline: Integration of automated tests into the architecture.
- Mentoring Ability: Capacity to guide developers in new tools and workflows, with patience and clarity.
- Effective Communication: Ability to explain architectural decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Experience in greenfield projects or rebuilding legacy systems.
- Knowledge of wide-format printing, color management, and industrial imaging.
- Skills in Rust or WASM for performance-critical tasks.
- Familiarity with browser wrapper technologies like Electron or Tauri.
- Experience in designing licensing or subscription systems.
- Understanding of AWS serverless architecture and CI/CD pipeline design.
