Engineering Manager

Employment: Full-time, remote
Schedule: Must work 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern Time

We are a lean team that ships production software quickly. The founder provides clear direction and expects efficient execution without unnecessary bureaucracy or repeated back-and-forth on decisions a strong engineering manager should be able to make independently.

We are looking for a deeply technical Engineering Manager who can own architecture end to end and drive execution across a small engineering team.

You’ll Own

• All technical and architectural decisions
• Management of two mid-level engineers
• Translating founder direction into shipped work with minimal turnaround time
• Weekly demonstrations of completed work
• Code reviews, technical mentorship, and removing blockers
• Full backend and infrastructure ownership
• LLM integrations where they provide meaningful value

Required Experience

• 8+ years of experience shipping production software
• 3+ years of direct engineering management experience
• Deep hands-on expertise in Python, Django, and FastAPI
• Strong experience with React or an equivalent modern JavaScript framework
• Advanced PostgreSQL knowledge, including schema design, indexing, replication, and query optimization
• Full AWS infrastructure experience, including EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, SQS/SNS, and Secrets Manager
• Elasticsearch experience, including indexing, query optimization, and cluster management
• Redis and Celery experience for caching and asynchronous tasks
• Experience integrating third-party APIs across multiple vendors
• Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex as a primary development tool; you must be prepared to demonstrate your workflow through screen sharing
• Experience shipping at least one feature where an Anthropic or OpenAI API performs meaningful work
• Proven ability to ship quickly, reduce scope when necessary, and make architectural decisions without a detailed specification
• Fluent and confident English communication
• Availability to work 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern Time

Compensation

Competitive and negotiable based on experience and location.
