We're hiring a Cloud Architect to lead the handover of AWS infrastructure from an outgoing agency into our team's ownership. You'll work alongside our project lead (also a cloud architect) and a broader transition team to ensure a clean handoff, preserve the integrity of the client's cloud environment, and set us up to operate it confidently going forward.
Two outcomes matter most in this role: keeping the lights on throughout the migration with zero unplanned downtime, and producing excellent documentation artifacts that our team will co-author with you and rely on long after the transition is complete. Everything else supports these two goals.
What You'll Do
- Lead the end-to-end transfer of AWS infrastructure, minimizing risk and avoiding service disruption — operational continuity is non-negotiable.
- Co-author thorough, high-quality documentation of the existing architecture, configurations, runbooks, and any changes made during the transition. Our team will partner with you on this; the final artifacts should be ones we're all proud of.
- Drive working sessions with the outgoing agency to capture institutional knowledge, surface undocumented dependencies, and validate handover artifacts.
- Participate in weekly check-ins with the project lead and other members of the transition and documentation team to align on progress, blockers, and next steps.
- Partner with internal engineering, security, and operations teams to align the environment with our standards and practices.
- Track work, decisions, and handover items in Jira.
Required Skills
- AWS certification as a Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience designing, operating, and migrating AWS infrastructure in production environments.
- Hands-on Terraform experience — this is the IaC tool we use and a hard requirement.
- Strong technical writing skills — able to translate complex cloud architecture into documentation that engineers and stakeholders can actually use.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, particularly when working across organizational boundaries.
- Comfort working in Jira for tracking tasks, tickets, and handover progress.
Nice to Have
- Cloud security experience (IAM design, network segmentation, secrets management, compliance frameworks, or AWS Security Specialty certification).
- Based in the EST timezone for overlap with our team and client.
- Prior experience leading agency-to-in-house transitions or M&A-style infrastructure handovers.
Requirements
- Must pass a background check.
- Work will be performed on a pre-provisioned remote machine with access to the relevant infrastructure and tooling.
