Job Title: Instructional Designer
Department: Online Learning
Reports To: Director of Online Learning and Instructional Design
FLSA Status: Exempt
Hours: Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 am to 3:00 p.m. CST (extended hours when requested)
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Online Learning and Instructional Design, the Instructional Designer provides instructional design expertise, technical support, and guidance in the design, development, and continued improvement of Waldorf online courses per the standards and guidelines set forth by the Online Learning department.
Essential Job Tasks (Other duties as assigned)
- Design and develop elements of online courses to achieve engaging and authentic learning experiences through objectives, instructional material, learning activities, course technology, and assessments.
- Collaborate with online program directors, subject matter experts, and faculty through regular communication to design, develop, integrate technology, and plan for curriculum and instructional implementation utilizing adult learning theory and methodology.
- Incorporate engaging learning strategies into course material to increase student achievement, engagement, and interaction.
- Ensure the application of appropriate standards to online courses and programs in areas such as outcome assessment, assistive technologies, accessibility, and copyright to create an exceptional student experience and meet institutional needs.
- Collaborate with members of the Instructional Design and Technology team as necessary to complete course projects as scheduled.
- Provide support and assistance with institutional and departmental initiatives at the direction of the Director of Online Learning and Instructional Design.
- Provide a weekly project report to the Director of Online Learning and Instructional Design.
- Promote and maintain an environment of positive cooperation and communication within the Online Learning and Instructional Design department.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge
- Instructional Design – Knowledge of instructional design principles and diverse learning styles, theories, and methods.
- English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Computer - Knowledge of basic computer processes including word processing, web browsing, and Microsoft Office including Basic Microsoft Excel.
- Mathematics - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

- Project Management – Proficiency in developing realistic project plans, prioritizing and planning work activities, coordinating projects, communicating changes and progress, and completing projects on time and within budget.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Curriculum Development, or related specialty.
- 1-3 years of experience in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Curriculum Creation, or a closely related field required.
Equipment Used
- Office equipment including computers, telephones, printers, faxes, and copiers.
- Software used includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Blackboard, and internal database software.
Work Environment
Remote: Expected to design own personal work environment giving consideration of frequent near vision use for reading and computer use. Availability via remote access and/or technology during working hours is expected. Reliable and secure internet is required for this position.
