Our client is a European leader in experience-based gifting, connecting millions of people to unforgettable travel, food, wellness, and adventure packages. With a powerful e-commerce platform and thousands of real-time booking options, they’re now looking for a Backend Tech Lead PHP to shape the future of their booking and availability engine.

 

 

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll set the direction for backend development, focus on real-time data and availability integrations (hotels, spas, restaurants), and support high-volume B2C systems across Europe.

 

 

What you’ll be doing:

* Lead the technical vision and architecture for the booking and availability domain
* Design and maintain scalable backend systems using PHP (Symfony)
* Drive best practices across performance, testing, and integration
* Work with cross-functional teams (Dev, QA, Product, Offshore) to deliver solutions that scale
* Take part in code reviews, guide other devs, and shape the team’s technical standards
* Represent your area in wider tech discussions and system decisions
* Promote clean, maintainable, and testable code across the team

 

 

What you’ll need:

* 6+ years of backend development experience, with leadership/ownership responsibilities
* 1+ year in technical leadership or mentoring
* Deep experience in PHP (v7/8) and modern frameworks like Symfony
* Strong background in booking systems and 3rd-party integrations (Must have)
* Comfortable working with REST/SOAP APIs, relational databases, and asynchronous messaging
* Hands-on with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and modern development workflows
* Clean architecture mindset with knowledge of SOLID principles
* Some understanding of search systems and real-time data flows
