The Identity and Access Management (IAM) team at Yelp enables our employees to keep our data safe while delivering value to millions of users around the world. Our team is responsible for building, maintaining, and extending secure, reliable, and high-available systems which power centralized authentication, authorization, access management, and least-privileging across all of Yelp’s internal systems. With a blend of software engineering and security, our full-stack projects span diverse areas, including threat modeling, system analysis, and development of robust security systems using both backend and frontend technologies. 
 
We’re looking for a Software Engineer with expertise in the identity management and security spaces to join Yelp’s Identity and Access Management team. In this role, you will collaborate with teams across Yelp to work on interesting technical challenges, design and implement next generation access management, authorization, authentication, and compliance solutions to empower Yelp employees to do their job better, faster, and safer with minimum access.

What You'll Do 
 


* Design and implement secure, robust, highly available, and scalable solutions to manage and optimize the workforce’s identity and access lifecycle.
* Develop and enforce access control policies by designing, building, and deploying authentication and authorization mechanisms within our Service-Oriented Architecture.
* Collaborate with teams across Yelp to assess IAM risks, define remediation strategies, and drive access improvements supporting the Principle of Least Privilege.
* Create models to systematically identify over-provisioned permissions and recommend enhancements to strengthen our least-privilege posture.
* Automate governance controls and improve the efficiency of compliance processes.
* Participate in on-call rotation and incident response as needed.
* Work with a globally distributed team based in multiple countries. 
 
 

What It Takes To Succeed 
 


* An understanding of and background in IAM processes, access management lifecycles, role engineering, single sign-on, and associated best practices.
* Ideally 3+ years of experience in software engineering, developing full-stack, complex, and distributed applications.
* A strong understanding of designing elegant, well-structured APIs.
* Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, C, etc.).
* BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
* A collaborative mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing across teams.
* All communication for this role, both spoken and written, will be conducted in English.
