Kibeam is an ed-tech startup developing a completely novel, hands-on technology to tackle the global literacy crisis. Our Kibeam Wand is a handheld reading buddy that helps young children develop essential literacy skills while nurturing a lifelong passion for reading and learning - all without screens. This entry-level Mechanical Engineer position on our product development team will be responsible for contributing to the development and launch of the next generation Kibeam reading technology!
This role might be for you if:
You’re a natural tinkerer. You have a deep understanding of engineering principles, and you’re constantly putting them to the test building, breaking, fixing, and finessing anything that captures your curiosity. You have a working knowledge of metal processes and plastics design; you’re excited to leverage this knowledge to tackle mechanical, electrical, and industrial design challenges and help engineer manufacturing fixtures and jigs that will elevate the design of our Kibeam Wand. You are a skilled collaborator, proactive in asking questions, and comfortable working in a hybrid work setting with a team that is distributed across the U.S. Last, you believe in our mission to tackle the literacy crisis in America and are excited to join a team supporting kids and their families in their literacy journeys.
$100 - $120 a year
This role is a hybrid position with some travel required to our lab in Santa Clara. Strong preference for candidates based in the Bay, Central Valley, and Sacramento areas. Some travel to China is required in the role.

Location: Kibeam is a virtual, distributed team with close, continuous connection and support. While we prefer candidates in the same time zone (west coast), we are much more interested in your skills and talents than where you work. You need to be able to work at home and join our full team (1-2 times per year) for in-person planning, activities, work and fun.
