This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Software Maintenance Engineer - RHEL in Canada.
In this role, you will support enterprise customers by providing advanced technical troubleshooting and sustaining engineering for Linux-based environments. You will work directly with users, developers, and engineering teams to diagnose, reproduce, and resolve complex networking and system-level issues. The position involves deep analysis of Linux internals, collaboration across cloud and infrastructure partners, and contribution to knowledge systems and open-source initiatives. You will build expertise in modern networking, virtualization, and software-defined technologies while guiding customers through critical issues. This role is fully remote and requires availability during Pacific Time business hours.
Accountabilities
Act as a primary technical advisor for customer inquiries related to networking and Linux environments.
Deliver high-quality customer experiences through expert troubleshooting, clear communication, and technical professionalism.
Partner with cloud and infrastructure providers to resolve multi-vendor customer issues.
Conduct deep investigations into complex networking problems and collaborate with engineering teams to drive long-term solutions.
Contribute to global knowledge systems and open-source codebases.
Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with distributed teams to resolve challenging cases.
Use internal ticketing systems and tools to provide direct customer support.
Utilize AI-assisted development tools for code generation, analysis, and improved development workflows.
Maintain availability during Pacific Time working hours, with occasional weekend rotations.
Requirements
5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years focused on networking.
Strong Linux expertise at RHCSA or RHCE level, including in-depth knowledge of kernel internals, memory, locking, and RCU mechanics.
Deep understanding of network protocols (TCP, UDP, IP, multicast) and software-defined networking technologies (OpenShift, OVS, OVN, Geneve, VXLAN, etc.).
Experience with advanced protocols such as SCTP, MPTCP, and BGP.
Expert-level skills in vmcore analysis, debugging crashes, interpreting data structures, and correlating findings with source code.
Ability to reproduce, analyze, and resolve complex networking bugs under minimal supervision.
Proficiency with Git, including bisecting regressions and contributing upstream.
Strong documentation skills, including formal write-ups for complex issues.
System administration experience and a background in customer-facing technical support.
Advanced packet capture and protocol analysis skills using tools such as Wireshark.
Programming experience in C, Python, or Perl for building network-related tests and utilities.
Familiarity with major cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, and virtualization via KVM is a plus.
Experience with debugging tools such as GDB, crash, perf, strace, and ftrace is advantageous.
Strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and ability to manage priorities effectively.
Excellent teamwork, communication, and mentoring abilities.
Strong verbal and written English communication.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
