This role provides a unique opportunity to advance research informatics through scalable, secure, and reproducible computing solutions. The engineer will design, implement, and maintain DevOps strategies to support clinical, genomic, and research projects, ensuring reliable and efficient data workflows. You will work collaboratively with researchers, data analysts, and IT professionals to integrate diverse data systems, optimize performance, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The position emphasizes the creation of robust documentation, workflow automation, and reproducible research practices. It is ideal for someone with deep technical expertise in databases, data pipelines, and analytics, who thrives in a collaborative, innovative research environment. This fully remote role offers exposure to cutting-edge informatics technologies and complex research data challenges.

• Accountabilities:
• Develop, manage, and optimize ETL pipelines for clinical, genomic, and research data from multiple sources.
• Collaborate with researchers, bioinformaticians, and IT teams to design data systems aligned with project and compliance requirements.
• Create and maintain relational and non-relational databases to support research initiatives.
• Implement APIs and data access layers to enable secure, controlled interoperability between platforms.
• Ensure data quality, reliability, and harmonization following standards such as OMOP, HL7 FHIR, and CDISC.
• Support reproducible research through version control, workflow automation, and detailed documentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and analysts and lead collaborative projects across the institution.
• Research and apply emerging technologies to enhance data infrastructure and research workflows.
• Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree with seven years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Strong experience with RDBMS systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and proficiency in SQL and its extensions (PL/SQL, T-SQL).
• Experience with data engineering, ETL frameworks (Airflow, dbt, or similar), and research informatics in healthcare or life sciences.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, R, or Scala).
• Knowledge of clinical and research data types (EHR, REDCap, genomics, imaging) and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, IRB).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD processes.
• Experience with data governance, security, and reproducibility best practices.
• Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills; ability to mentor junior staff.
