Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Mid-Level UX Designer to join our team and contribute to the development and maintenance of our Design System. This role will specifically be tasked with applying a unique brand expression to an existing system. It involves ensuring consistency, scalability, and usability by collaborating with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and other designers. The ideal candidate will have experience in user-centered design principles, a strong portfolio demonstrating their ability to work with design systems, and a passion for creating seamless user experiences.

Candidates for this role must possess strong organizational skills with relevant user experience expertise, preferably in a regulated industry. The ability to progress things independently as well as working in a team environment is crucial, while being able to solve problems quickly and maintain creativity in a fast-paced environment. You’ll be a customer-first advocate who is a confident communicator, comfortable working through ambiguity, and not easily ruffled.

Key Responsibilities

Design System Management

• Maintain and evolve the existing Design System by creating reusable components, patterns, and guidelines.
• Ensure adherence to accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and best practices in all design elements.
• Collaborate with developers to ensure seamless implementation of design components into code.

User-Centered Design

• Conduct user research to gather insights and validate design decisions.
• Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that align with the Design System.
• Test designs with users to ensure usability and effectiveness.

Collaboration & Communication

• Partner with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to define project requirements and deliverables.
• Act as a liaison between business, design, and development teams to ensure the Design System is consistently applied across projects.
• Present design concepts and updates to stakeholders for feedback.

Continuous Improvement

• Audit existing products for inconsistencies and recommend improvements using the Design System.
• Stay updated on industry trends, tools, and best practices related to UX design and design systems.

Qualifications

Experience

• 3–5 years of professional experience in UX/UI design, with at least 1–2 years working on or with a Design System.

Skills

• Proficiency in design tools such as Figma
• Strong understanding of front-end technologies (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) to collaborate effectively with developers.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and inclusive design principles.

Soft Skills

• Excellent communication skills for presenting ideas and collaborating across teams.
• Strong problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Ability to think multiple steps ahead, anticipate what’s needed, and take actions.
• Strong work ethic and time management skills with dedication to meeting or exceeding expectations despite contending priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with frameworks such as React in relation to component libraries.
• Familiarity with version control systems for managing changes in the Design System.
• Background in conducting usability testing or A/B testing.
