ENERGY MARKET ANALYST (REMOTE Only for candidates residing within the U.S.)

Position Summary:
PowerGEM is seeking an Energy Market Analyst to build and maintain regional energy market data models for input to our production cost simulation, analysis, and modeling software. In this key role, you will be able to take ownership of the overall data development process, create new collection methodologies, and develop new structures for data management and will have the opportunity for rapid advancement.
What you’ll be doing:
- Collect and analyze various power system data, for example, electricity demand data, transmission line data, renewable energy modeling and credits and emissions fuel pricing from National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Energy Information Administration (EIA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA}, Independent System Operators (ISOs,) and other sources.
- Perform market simulation to thoroughly test developed datasets, eliminate data warnings, and benchmark results.
- Perform data maintenance and updates to developed models.
- Contribute to development of tools that support data modification and management.
- Assist in maintaining detailed data documentation.
- Continually build expertise on individual ISO energy markets as well as nuances of non-ISO utility regions
- Closely follow the evolving energy industry especially regarding regional trends such as offshore wind development and associated state and federal incentives
What we’re looking for:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in the energy industry required.
- Experience in data modeling and simulation applications.
- Advanced analytical skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Understanding of day-ahead and real-time power markets with knowledge of the supply-demand inputs to market models is helpful.
- Experience analyzing power market data.
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Quickbase or similar relational databases.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Mathematics, or other analytical field is preferred; Or related industry experience and knowledge.
Bonus Points Awarded For (but Not required):
- Working experience with PROBE or other production costing software (e.g. PROMOD, MAPS, Plexos, etc.)
- Knowledge of one or more specific U.S. power markets (PJM, ERCOT, CAISO, etc.)
- Experience with programming languages such as Python is a plus.
