The deeper our team thought about the benefits and drawbacks of working remotely, the more questions arose in our minds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we decided to reach out to our community of Arc Developers, Codementor Mentors, and friends in the greater tech community to share with us what it&#8217;s&nbsp;<em>really<\/em>&nbsp;like to work as a remote developer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Some of the questions we asked developers:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>How often do you feel lonely?<\/li><li>How often do you travel?<\/li><li>Where do you usually work?<\/li><li>Is figuring out how to pay your taxes easy?<\/li><li>What is the most important skill for remote developers to learn?<\/li><li>When you are working, how do you achieve flow state?<\/li><li>Do you prefer synchronous or asynchronous communication in your team?<\/li><li>What is the biggest obstacle preventing companies from adopting remote work?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The responses from our survey debunked some common remote work myths, revealed insights into how remote workers perform their best, and identified some obstacles to mainstream remote work adoption. biggest challenge for most remote developers. It&#8217;s also a common misconception that all remote workers are constantly on the go. In fact, most of them work from home and only travel a few times per year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And although the idea of figuring out how to pay taxes as a remote developer may seem daunting, most of them agree that it&#8217;s actually pretty easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most remote developers are looking to improve their soft skills as these are essential for their success when it comes to growth and productivity. The top soft skills the developers mentioned are communication and time management. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Staying productive is also crucial, and the most common methods for achieving a flow state in their work include listening to music and using the Pomodoro technique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the obstacles people face in remote work, communication and trust issues can be the most intimidating. As to whether asynchronous or synchronous communication is most effective, opinions on this topic are split almost 50\/50.
